About the Artwork
This painting imagines Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as a child, refracted through the dreamlike haze of the Opium Dream series. The series conjures an imagined opium-smoking circle of artists and bohemians, where history and reverie intertwine. Figures slip between abstraction and figuration, their forms dissolving into clouds of color, like music dissolving into air.
In L’Enfant Mozart, the young composer appears serene and spectral, his face softly closed in concentration, as if listening to music only he can hear. Swirls of blues, violets, and fiery oranges surround him, echoing both the turbulence and the divine clarity of his genius. Shefet paints with blue as her black, allowing darkness to shimmer with chromatic depth.
